DCC was thrilled to have Travis join us in 2021. He co-conducts the Summit Singers in our Neighborhood Choir Program, as well as co-conducting our Premier Ensembles: Fourteeners, Mountain Aires, and Thin Air. Before moving to Colorado, Travis taught general music at East Ward Elementary School, a Title I School in Killeen, Texas for three years. From 2008 to 2017, Travis was an Assistant Conductor for Colorado Children’s Chorale, directing the Prep Choir and assisting with all other choirs in their auditioned, professional training programs and their school partnership program. For eight years (2014-2021), Travis was also an Assistant Conductor for the Colorado Symphony Chorus, a post he held until joining the DCC staff. But perhaps most important of all, what Travis is most well-known for is creating Vocal Coalition (VOCO), a unique and modern alternative to traditional youth choir where youth sing and rap in any genre with the artists who write the songs they learn. He’s presented programs about VOCO several times at major conferences like Chorus America, the Colorado Music Educators Association, and the Colorado Association for Gifted and Talented, and has even given a TEDx Talk about it. Travis has a bachelor’s degree in music education from Abilene Christian University. He loves baseball, the ocean, quality time with friends and family, deep conversations about life, classic rock, original Colorado music, and of course...choir.
