Denver, CO — Two of Denver’s most impactful youth music organizations, the Denver Children’s Choir (DCC) and Vocal Coalition Youth Choirs (VOCO), are proud to announce a landmark merger that will bring together their complementary missions, talented teams, and passionate communities to form one powerful, unified organization dedicated to youth empowerment through music.
Together, DCC and VOCO will serve over 500 youth across the Denver metropolitan area, representing the rich cultural and socioeconomic diversity of the region. More than 50% of participating youth come from marginalized populations, receiving tuition assistance, and over 60% identify as youth of color. This exciting partnership will expand access to high-quality music education, creative expression, and social-emotional development for young people across Denver.
At the helm of this newly merged organization is Travis Branam, who has been appointed Artistic Director. A visionary leader and respected educator, Branam brings two decades of experience in youth choral music, including his founding of VOCO in 2017 and his previous artistic leadership roles at the Colorado Children’s Chorale, Colorado Symphony Chorus, and the Denver Children’s Choir. His innovative approach blends musical excellence with wellness and community-building, making him uniquely suited to lead this next chapter. “This merger isn’t just about uniting organizations—it’s about unleashing a wave of possibility,” said Branam. “Together, we will become a force that empowers thousands of Denver youth to rise, dream, and believe more deeply in themselves. Music is the tool, but affirmation is the goal.”
Founded in 1995, the Denver Children’s Choir has long been a leader in choral education, offering progressive musical training through its Neighborhood Choirs and elite Premier Ensembles. With 10 choir locations and a robust touring program, DCC fosters a deep love for music and community among students from 2nd through 12th grade.
Vocal Coalition (VOCO), founded in 2017, has redefined what a youth choir can be. With a focus on contemporary music, BIPOC artist collaborations, and wellness-based programming, VOCO meets youth where they are—bringing music into after-school programs, community centers, and performance venues in authentic, empowering ways.
This merger marks a bold step forward, combining DCC’s legacy of traditional choral excellence with VOCO’s one-of-a-kind, culturally relevant, socially conscious programming to form a vibrant, inclusive, and future-facing youth music organization.
