Katie has been a vibrant force as a conductor for the DCC community since 2016. Her musical innovations and skill-based teaching style prepare our youth as excellent musicians and singers. Anyone who sits in on a rehearsal with Katie will see the care and nurturing she gives each individual child.
Most recently, Katie worked on a collaboration with Colorado Poet Laureate, Bobby LeFebre. The end result is a poem and choral composition called “We Are The Ones” which premiered at our concert on May 7, 2022. In Katie’s words: “Each time I get to teach this piece, I get a smile on my face; I believe that is the poem doing its work; reflecting back the amazing energy and humanity of the singers in our choir.”
Katie has 10 years of experience teaching K-12 Chorus and Band, runs a private lesson studio, and is also the director of music at Wheat Ridge Presbyterian Church. She majored in Music and Russian at Wellesley College in Massachusetts. After graduation, she studied Russian classical music on a Fulbright scholarship to Russia at the Gnesin Institute in Moscow.
Katie received her Master’s in Music Education with an emphasis in conducting from Colorado State University. She sings with Denver Choir League and enjoys writing her own stories, poems and songs. She lives with her husband and two daughters in Wheat Ridge.
